News from the North: Autumn 2008

Make it Alaskan Festival

It's been a while since the last newsletter.  Previously I mentioned that the Make It Alaskan Festival was coming up, and both getting ready for it and recovering from it have taken quite a bit of time.

It went well.  The show had a good turn out.  I had an opportunity to meet some other vendors and some other glass people.

Here's a photo of my space:

Next year, I think I might get a double space just to have more room to spread things out.

On the first day of the show, there was a wholesale preview.  I got my first wholesale order!  So now, if you're in downtown Anchorage, you can find some of my pieces at Cabin Fever.

Picture Frames

To add some lower priced pieces to my offerings, I made quite a few picture frames before the Make It Alaskan Festival.

They were quite popular.

These frames in the middle are part of what I'm calling the 'Sherry' series, named after mi amiga who was a tremendous help  with the show.

That's not why the series is named after her... but I'm not allowed to talk about how she inspired them.

The frames are a decorative glass facade glued to a basic metal frame.

Some of the frames arrived with the clear cover glass broken - those became mirrors instead.

Mini Candle Holders:

In other New Glass happenings... since the show, I have been working on some other small items.

Why small?  I'm thinking ahead to future shows and, as it turns out, glass is heavy.

This small candle holder is about 5" square:

The mini candle holders (to the right), are just under 4" square and I'm going to bundle those in 2-piece sets.

Some other mini candle holders can be seen here and here.
